Most of the coaches at Matamata Gym Club are ‘‘just mums and dads’’.
‘‘Some of our coaches have a vast gym experience and some don’t, so we offer coaching nights so we’re furthering their skills and making sure everything is safe,’’ Emma says.
The club is simply a group of people getting together to run something for the children – they all do it voluntarily.
Children are split up into age and ability groups, and take part in various activities during each of the sessions.
Matamata Gym Club president is Karen Nicholls.
Club nights are held on Tuesdays 5.30pm-7pm during term time at Headon Stadium on Western St.
Those taking part must be aged 5 from May 1.
Cost is $65 for two terms.
Timothy Baxendine is all concentration as he takes part in his gym lesson.
