Morn­ing tea for vol­un­teers

Vol­un­teers are an ‘‘amaz­ing lot’’, ac­cord­ing to Pohlen Hos­pi­tal’s Lo­raine Je­cen­tho.

At the hos­pi­tal’s cel­e­bra­tory morn­ing tea last week the clin­i­cal qual­ity man­ager said Pohlen was for­tu­nate to have a large num­ber of vol­un­teers. ‘‘From those who de­liver meals on wheels to oth­ers who help with ac­tiv­i­ties and com­pan­ion­ship,’’ she said.

The morn­ing tea was held dur­ing Na­tional Vol­un­teer Week as a way to thank all those in the com­mu­nity who give time to help oth­ers.

the hos­pi­tal last week were the group of around 20 Pohlen Pals.

The pro­ject was ini­ti­ated ear­lier this year and is go­ing from strength to strength, Je­cen­tho said. ‘‘ You are all spe­cial and val­ued re­gard­less of the amount of time you do­nate. It is your time and you give it up for us. A huge thank you to you all, from all the res­i­dents and staff.’’

Je­cen­tho wanted to also thank the staff for wel­com­ing the vol­un­teers and the way they ac­knowl­edged the vol­un­teers spe­cial role in help­ing staff care for their res­i­dents.
