Re­porter cap­tured aliens, lions, war­riors and princesses on the cat­walk as Te Poi School stu­dents showed off their wearable art made from re­cy­cled ma­te­ri­als. Prin­ci­pal Linda Larsen was ‘‘stag­gered’’ to see 160 peo­ple at­tend the July 2 event, which was a cul­mi­na­tion of a term of learn­ing about dif­fer­ent types of fab­rics, fi­bres and their prop­er­ties. Larsen and the other teach­ers were so im­pressed with the chil­dren’s per­se­ver­ance with the cre­ations made from found ma­te­ri­als, in­clud­ing trash, that they glued, sta­pled and con­tin­ued to sew de­spite nee­dle-pricked fin­gers.

Dragon Dou­glas Wa­ters, 6, clearly en­joyed the ex­pe­ri­ence of be­ing a model.
