COMAG Mata­mata Col­lege first XV trav­elled to Hamil­ton on the week­end to play Hamil­ton Boys’ High School sec­ond XV.

HBHS opened the scor­ing with an early try. Mid-way through the first half Tana Tuhakaraina replied for Mata­mata with a try af­ter a 40 me­ter sprint to score next to the posts. Jesse Holdsworth kicked the con­ver­sion mak­ing the score 7 to 5. Holdsworth ex­tended Mata­mata’s lead with a try in the cor­ner af­ter some good work by the back line, to be 12- 5 at half time.

HBHS be­gan the sec­ond half strongly and soon had things locked up at 12-all af­ter a con­verted try. Jake Roa got Mata­mata back in front with a try but HBHS hit back again with another try so with 10 min­utes to go the score was locked up at 17-all. Mata­mata winger Sireli Ku­rud­uadua then crashed over in the line to make it 22-17, giv­ing Mata­mata their fourth win in a row. Codee Pauro was good in the li­ne­out for Mata­mata, while winger Jake Roa also played well.

In the only other game played on the week­end, Mata­mata Un­der 14’s had a good win over St John’s 26-3 to re­main un­beaten.
