Fourth win in row
COMAG Matamata College first XV travelled to Hamilton on the weekend to play Hamilton Boys’ High School second XV.
HBHS opened the scoring with an early try. Mid-way through the first half Tana Tuhakaraina replied for Matamata with a try after a 40 meter sprint to score next to the posts. Jesse Holdsworth kicked the conversion making the score 7 to 5. Holdsworth extended Matamata’s lead with a try in the corner after some good work by the back line, to be 12- 5 at half time.
HBHS began the second half strongly and soon had things locked up at 12-all after a converted try. Jake Roa got Matamata back in front with a try but HBHS hit back again with another try so with 10 minutes to go the score was locked up at 17-all. Matamata winger Sireli Kuruduadua then crashed over in the line to make it 22-17, giving Matamata their fourth win in a row. Codee Pauro was good in the lineout for Matamata, while winger Jake Roa also played well.
In the only other game played on the weekend, Matamata Under 14’s had a good win over St John’s 26-3 to remain unbeaten.
