Hinuera fall short despite defence

Matamata Chronicle - - Sport -

Levi Henare playing at flanker, a force.

Taupiri increased their lead with a converted try involving six phases of play to make it 12-0 in the 45th minute.

A soft try to the hosts by their first-five when he ducked, dived and swerved to score beneath the posts to make it 19- 0 dented Hinuera’s pride but not their resolve.

Olesen made a long run of 20 metres but couldn’t find any runners but his captain Zane Herrick did the damage with a fine solo 25 metre burst to score untouched, 19-5 to Taupiri.

Jared McNaughton’s conversion hit the upright.

A dust-up involving Noa Madenawa meant he and his opponent glared at each other from opposite ends of the field for 10 minutes. Taupiri scored a fourth try, 24-5 in the 75th minute.

Hinuera had the final say when Josh Hedge intercepted a pass, set play with ball in hand from the 10 metre mark with McNaughton scoring and converting, Taupiri 24-12.

Braedon Coates’s battered body cried enough shortly before full time. His shoulder had troubled him all season. McNaughton was player of the day.

The B’s lost 27-10. They play Leamington away next week.

Colts were 23- 21 against Suburbs.
