Businesses celebrate success
Matamata-Piako District Council hosted the annual Business Night Out on Thursday, with Matamata’s COMAG winning the Bayleys Business Excellence Award. Another Matamata business, Jersey Girl Organics, received the very first Emerging Business Award.
The Matamata customer service awards went to Plumb.Co (trades and services) and Life Pharmacy (retail).
COMAG’s general manager Kevin Dare said to get nominated was ‘‘fantastic’’ but to win was ‘‘awesome’’. He wanted to thank award sponsor Bayleys and MPDC for hosting the event, along with the company’s customers, their staff and their families.
Jersey Girl Organics’ Mary Vosper said the family-run business were surprised but happy to be announced as Emerging Business Award recipients.
Mary wanted to thank her nephew Michael, her brother John Vosper and his wife Liz Mackay and their worker Pradeep for all their efforts with the business. ‘‘We also have very loyal customers who just love the milk.’’

The Bayleys Business Excellence Award was also public nominated and judged by a panel. This award recognises distinction in business in the Matamata-Piako district. The finalists were: Marks and Ewen and Associates Equine Veterinary Hospital, COMAG, Evolve Fitness, Crazee Cow Cafe´, Chasing Cats, Kodak & Black and Viking Kayaks. The Emerging Business Award, for businesses that have been established in the last two years. Again, nominations came from the public before going to a panel of innovation and business professionals. The finalists were: Flex Fitness Morrinsville, Loxy & Co Eatery, Jersey Girl Organics, Ador Hair Skin & Beauty Therapy, Kaimai Valley CrossFit and K9 Country Kennels.
