Fire crews from Ti­rau and Pu­taruru were called to a wool shed fire on Pa­paramu Rd, west of Ti­rau. A sec­ond alarm went out, call­ing in ex­tra crews from Mata­mata and another crew from Pu­taruru. The wool shed was a to­tal loss.

Oc­to­ber 7

Mata­mata crews dealt with a truck fire at Te Poi. Crews were called to the blaze on SH 29 be­tween McNab and Wat­son Rds at 3.55am. Flames were com­ing from the truck but the driver was out. Mata­mata fire chief Kevin Curtis said the truck was picked up by a wrecker and towed from the scene. He said it started to smoke again af­ter it was picked up by the wrecker, so they went and ex­tin­guished it. He didn’t know what caused the truck fire. A Mata­mata fire crew also at­tended a med­i­cal call out for a car­diac ar­rest.

Oc­to­ber 10

Mata­mata fire crew re­sponded to a car acci- dent af­ter two cars col­lided. Two cars, a Toy­ota and a Mazda, were in­volved in the crash on the cor­ner of SH 27 and 29 be­tween Mata­mata and Ti­rau at 9.20am. The woman, the driver and sole oc­cu­pant of one car, was flown to Waikato Hos­pi­tal by the West­pac Res­cue He­li­copter, in a crit­i­cal con­di­tion. The man, the sole oc­cu­pant of the other car, was trapped and had to be freed by fire­fight­ers at the scene. He was treated at the scene for mi­nor in­juries by St John Am­bu­lance.

A Mata­mata fire crew as­sisted with traf­fic af­ter a bike and a car col­lided on the Kaimai sum­mit. There was no ma­jor in­jures.
