Matamata’s pools, now known as Swim Zone Matamata, will reopen for business on Saturday, October 24. The indoor pool, dive pool and toddler pool will initially be the only areas open. Matamata-Piako District Council have said the outdoor pool will open soon after. The upgrade to the pool, worth around $1.3 million, took three months after they closed on July 6.
The upgrade focused on accessibility improvements to the pool, as well as upgrades to the pumps, filters and balance tanks.
The council were able to install heating to the changing rooms and a fresh lick of paint along with new flooring. There are also three more changing cubicles in the indoor area, as well as a new accessible changing room and ramp access to the indoor pool. The indoor pool is now 32 degrees, up from 28 degrees.
While the pools were unavailable it was business as usual for Fitzone Gym, Zone Espresso Bar and the United Matamata Squash Club.
Speaking ahead of the closure, Matamata Futures chairman Frank Healey said the group were ‘‘pleased’’ the council were spending money on the pool.
The pool will be open all Labour weekend from 10am5pm.
