The inaugural Matamata Festival of Cycling on Sunday, November 1 will have something for all cycling lovers. Entry to the very first Matamata Festival of Cycling is by gold coin, with proceeds going to the Westpac Rescue Helicopter. The event kicks off at 10am and will continue through to around 3pm. Activities and demonstrations will begin at 10.30am. The Matalele Ladies will perform at 12noon before the grand bicycle parade around the Firth Tower at 1pm. The prize draws will take place at 1.30pm before the Matamata Brass Band begins at 1.45pm. The grand bicycle raffle draw will be held at 2pm. Giveaways and spot prizes on the day will include a massage voucher and bike goodies from Bikewise. Friends of the Tower will be selling Devonshire teas from 10am-3.30pm.
Organiser Colin Kemplen said the first Matamata Festival of Cycling was going to be a fun, family day out. ‘‘We are encouraging mum, dad and the kids to cycle out from town to the Tower.’’
Raffle tickets, to win two youth bikes kindly donated by Giant, remain on sale at Matamata Cycles, Tainui Press, Westpac, Matamata Chronicle and on the day.
