Get golfing for ailing Kate’s sake
For the first time, Matamata Golf Club is running a charity golf tournament for an individual.
The club’s general manager, Graeme Reid, said New World Matamata owner Matthew Hart approached the club about running a tournament. He said it was then they decided to run a charity event for Kate Diprose, who is battling a relapse of acute lymphoblastic leukaemia. Matthew had already secured sponsorship for the event from Fonterra, Lion and BNZ.
Graeme was also impressed by the support of over 80 sponsors. They have provided items for the silent auctions at the November 13 event or have sponsored tees. The tournament has a shotgun start of 11am.
Graeme now wants more ambrose teams of four to register. This fun team format can include non-golfers. The $120 per team also covers a starter pack, barbecue and lunch afterwards. He is hoping many of the club’s 300 members will sign up but is also encouraging the public to join.
In the past the golf club has run charity tournaments for Ronald McDonald House and hosted tournaments for Pohlen Hospital.
