Matamata Chronicle - - Conversations - Colin Kemplen Chief Spoke Matamata Festival of Cycling

On behalf of the Matamata Festival of Cycling organising committee I want to say thank you to all those who helped to make the day such a success.

The weather was perfect, the Firth Tower setting an ideal venue, and the variety of bicycles just amazing. Who would have thought that we’d see a Pennyfarthing bicycle that’s over 125 years old being ridden around the Firth Tower reserve. It was certainly a fun day for all the family that benefited a very worthy cause. We raised around $1000 for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Trust.

A special thank you also to our sponsors and supporters. Special mention must be made of Mayor Jan Barnes who cycled to the event!

It was gratifying to see that the humble bicycle could bring so many people together and put a smile on so many faces.

Pedal power to you all,
