Piako Stormers in Labour weekend cricket tournament
Piako Stormers Year 7-8 boys cricket team performed cerditably in the annual Hawke’s Bay Labour Weekend cricket tournament.
This was to be the first time the boys, including a number of Matamata players, had played more than a 35-over game, manager Wayne Robb said.
Against Napier Tech Old Boys, Piako Stormers won the toss and sent the home side in to bat. Napier scored 323 runs with one of their openers scoring his first century and another getting a half-century.
Eddie James claimed a wicket, through Jake Morey taking a great catch.
Piako managed to bat through all 50 overs and made 193 runs.

In their next match, Piako won the toss and sent Dannevirke in to bat.
Lochie Bolstad opened the bowling and went on to have the impressive figures of seven overs, four wickets for 28 runs.
Piako were on the ropes early on in their innings at two wickets down for three runs.
Braedyn Henderson batted sensibly to keep the scoreboard ticking over, scoring 44 from 50 balls.
Ultimately Piako fell 22 runs short but once again batted their full 45 overs.
