Pi­ako Storm­ers in Labour week­end cricket tour­na­ment

Pi­ako Storm­ers Year 7-8 boys cricket team per­formed cerditably in the an­nual Hawke’s Bay Labour Week­end cricket tour­na­ment.

This was to be the first time the boys, in­clud­ing a num­ber of Mata­mata play­ers, had played more than a 35-over game, man­ager Wayne Robb said.

Against Napier Tech Old Boys, Pi­ako Storm­ers won the toss and sent the home side in to bat. Napier scored 323 runs with one of their open­ers scor­ing his first cen­tury and an­other get­ting a half-cen­tury.

Ed­die James claimed a wicket, through Jake Morey tak­ing a great catch.

Pi­ako man­aged to bat through all 50 overs and made 193 runs.

In their next match, Pi­ako won the toss and sent Dan­nevirke in to bat.

Lochie Bol­stad opened the bowl­ing and went on to have the im­pres­sive fig­ures of seven overs, four wick­ets for 28 runs.

Pi­ako were on the ropes early on in their in­nings at two wick­ets down for three runs.

Brae­dyn Hen­der­son bat­ted sen­si­bly to keep the score­board tick­ing over, scor­ing 44 from 50 balls.

Ul­ti­mately Pi­ako fell 22 runs short but once again bat­ted their full 45 overs.
