First sod turned at Pohlen

Mata­mata’s Pohlen Hos­pi­tal will fea­ture a com­pleted pal­lia­tive care wing by April 2016.

The long-awaited wing got a whole lot closer on Novem­ber 10 with the first sod be­ing turned.

Pohlen Hos­pi­tal Board Trust chair David Gasquoine said it was fan­tas­tic to be able to get to this point.

‘‘The com­mu­nity sup­port has been hum­bling,’’ he said.

The project drew a num­ber of ten­ders, with the con­tract be­ing given to Mata­mata busi­ness Stan­ley Con­struc­tion, who will then em­ploy sub­con­trac­tors.
