Local farmers pull together
‘‘I have been helped out a lot in the past and this is me paying all those good deeds forward.’’
Members of an online farming group, including a Matamata couple, have been helping each through tough times.
NZ Farmers members have already been helping each other by offering free milkings to those who were feeling stressed, taking a box of beer around to them and lending an ear to those who needed it.
This inspired a Matamata couple, Lin and Greg Miller, to open their home to other dairy farmers who can’t afford a holiday.
Lin made the offer on the private facebook page, NZ Farmers. She asked ‘‘Who out there is desperate for a break but can’t afford it?’’
She offered their spare room and home cooked evening meals to anyone who would like to visit the Waikato.
This is not the first time the couple have opened their home to others.
They have a wall of photos of people who have holidayed at their home. She said others had helped them in times of need.
‘‘I have been helped out a lot in the past and this is me paying all those good deeds forward,’’ she said.
Lin encouraged farmers to join the NZ Farmers page or other pages like Farming Mums to network and gain support.
