Guides heading to Chch jamboree
Matamata Girl Guides have raised enough money for 17 of their ranks and two parents to head to an international jamboree in January.
The group started raising funds in February and since then have been involved in a number of fundraising initiatives such as paper drives, working at the op shop, the Lions fertiliser drive and selling soaps.
The Girl Guiding jamboree will be held in Christchurch in January. Jamboree’s are held all over the world but only held in New Zealand every four years so the Guides only ever get to go to one. Through fundraising activities, although some have been hard work, the bonding experience has been great, the girls said.
‘‘It’s more fun then you expect it to be because you’re with your mates,’’ girl guide Olivia Stewart said.
Guide Madelynn Gill said she was looking forward to the water activities at jamboree while Jessica Walton was looking forward to camping out.
Olivia said the girls had been able to get to know a lot of people by raising funds in the community.
The goal had always been to raise the funds needed in a way that helped the community.
