Music on the green
Country Music on the Green is making a return next month with plenty of local talent on display.
The annual event, held at Railside by the Green on February 13, is hosted by Matamata Country Music Club.
Club spokesman Michael Tipping said the event will feature a full afternoon of music.
Clubs set to perform include the Young Guns from Papakura, Hauraki, Phoenix, South Waikato, Morrinsville and Matamata country music clubs.
Style will vary between modern and classic country music. ‘‘All visiting clubs are great supporters of country music so it’s great to have them along,’’ Michael said.
The clubs performing will provide a vast range of songs and talent, from those more experienced to those just starting out. ‘‘There will be something for everyone. It’s just a fun, family friendly day,’’ Michael said.
The music kicks off at 11am and runs through to 5pm.
Entry is free so bring your chair and enjoy six hours of great country music from six wider Waikato country music clubs.
The public are welcome to bring a picnic, but food will be available.
Michael said the club has had great support from the community ahead of this year’s event including a donation from AMI and the lending of a gazebo from Property Brokers and Wrightsons. The public have also always been great supporters of the event. ‘‘We hope it will be the same again this year,’’ Michael said.
Country Music on the Green kicks off Matamata Country Music Club’s monthly club nights. These will start in March and are held every third Friday of the month at the Matamata Primary School hall.
