Matamata Chronicle - - What’s On -

Cheer on some of the town’s successful swimmers at the upcoming local swimming carnival.

Between 20 and 30 Matamata Swimming Club members will be swimming at the February 6 event, club coach Graeme Laing said.

Club member Matt Hyde swam at the Queensland Champs, as part of the central swimming Aquaknights team, where he achieved some good personal best times. He will be swimming at an Aquaknights zonal competition the weekend after the carnival.

Thomas Raymond gained a bronze medal for his 1500m freestyle at the Victorian champs.

James Raymond was part of the Junior Aquaknights tri-series competition in Napier and he also swam some great personal best times. James won the silver medal in his age group in the NZ Open water 5km championship at Lake Taupo.

The carnival is the last chance to qualify for the New Zealand Juniors on February 20.

Laing encouraged the public to head along to Matamata Swim Zone to catch all the action on the day.

The junior SKINS event kicks off at lunch time and the seniors will be in the afternoon. They are knockout races that will be consisting of eight 50-metre lengths.

Local swimmers will be racing for prize money and pride at the Matamata swimming carnival.
