Matamata Golf’s Big Four was played for on Saturday with a good number of pairings attempting to uplift one of the sought after trophies at the club. The course again was presented in perfect conditions with a steaming hot day for the 36 holes. The Silk Road pairing of Mark Barnett and Jack Trower showed living on the course has a lot of advantages, taking the cup for the year. Murray Davidson and Brian Hunter were runners up with Paul Wood and Rob Colley taking third. Of note was the complete capitulation of the hot pairing of Bill Wilson and Brent Stewart, their bromance was put under extreme pressure and we will have to wait and see if they can reconnect for the Lynch Cup. Next week is the first round of the Summer Cup with young Ian Taylor looking to pick up the
trophy after dominating this event over the years. Roll up before nine and we’ll get away off both tees.
