Matamata Chronicle - - Your Paper, Your Place -

Week one is done and dusted and what a start I’ve had already. This town is gorgeous, as are the people in it and I can’t wait to see what it’s like without the hustle of roadworks. Initially I thought the only downfall to Matamata was the fact that there was no Glassons and we had to drive to get to a beach. But from all the devestating news in the media lately about drownings perhaps that is a blessing.

Summer is upon us and us inlanders are undoubtedly planning trips to the beach in the coming hot weeks and all I have to say is be careful. We need to take the ocean seriously and take ourselves seriously too. Know your limits in water and understand the beach that you’re going to. Is it west coast or east coast? What is the tide doing? Where is everyone else swimming and why?

New Zealand does not need another tragic headline, not one.

Happy summer people, but please, take care.
