Community leaders sought

Matamata Chronicle - - Out & About -

Nominations are now open for the 2016 Dairy Community Leadership Award.

The judges are looking for a woman who demonstrates community leadership, makes a significant contribution by playing an active role in the community and is a good ambassador for the Dairy Women’s Network.

Last year’s winner, Jo Sanford, was put forward for the award because of her community work.

The Southlander was chairwoman of the Waiau Health Trust, trustee of the Tuatapere Medical Trust, a trustee of the Borland Lodge Outdoor Education Trust and a member of the Tautapere Community Board at the time.

She has since stepped down from the outdoor education trust.

Her main concern was health and wellbeing in the rural communities, having seen the effect of the stresses of running a farm on her family and among her friends.

Fellow winner Rachael Nicholson, a former Dairy Women’s Network convenor also from Southland, was a volunteer with Victim Support, which was why she was also won the award for 2015.

The award will be presented at the national DWN conference held in Hamilton on May 4 and 5.
