Fashion in the field
It’s a tradition that has ladies and gents alike searching wardrobes for their best and 2016 will be no different.
Fashion in the Field will be running in full force this weekend at the J.Swap Contractors Ltd Matamata Breeders’ Stakes Day, an iconic one on the Matamata calendar and sponsorship and marketing co-ordinator Jaye Clark says she is excited about the entries to come.
The event, that has been running on the race day since 2001, has produced winners that have gone on to win Auckland and even Melbourne Fashion in the Field competitions.
‘‘We get some top, top level entries.
‘‘Over the past four years the winner has been a finalist in the Auckland Prix de Fashion, if not won it.’’
She says it can get very competitive, and this year’s two categories will only fire that more.
Entrants can either enter the EnVisage Raceday Elegance category, for both ladies and gents, which is for timeless, elegant, sophisticated, coordinated, smart and tasteful dress, Clark says.
Alternatively, those inspired by a little more panache can enter the RV Room Avante Garde category. This too is for ladies and gents, but caters for the ultra creative minds, Clark says.
She says it is for eyecatching outfits that standout from the crowd, ones with unique flair that just make the judge ‘‘love you’’.
The three finalists from both categories will go in the running to win the Supreme Award which will win $1000 Tuscany Road vouchers as well as gain automatic entry into Prix de Fashion at Ellerslie on Saturday March 12.
Clark says people can enter online or on course from 11-12 noon, and with $8000 in prizes up for grabs why wouldn’t you?
She says she brought it back to life 15 years ago because she thought the hundreds of well-dressed punters deserved some recognition.
‘‘It’s our iconic race day and I just believe it’s a part of racing...where everyone can get their glad rags on and enjoy it....There’s so many well-dressed people.’’
Prizes to the value of $12,000 will be up for grabs and the first 20 to enter will receive a goody bag valued at $300.
Last year’s Fashion in the Field winners were an impressive site.
