Boost the thrill with syndicate
Owning a share in a racehorse is the best way to enjoy the thrill of racing, Rochelle Richardson from Richardson Racing Stables said.
She should know as 99 per cent of the horses at her and her husband’s stables are owned by syndicates.
She said the biggest benefit was that, by having as little as a 1 per cent stake in a racehorse, which could have been bought for $20,000 so would only cost a part-owner $200 plus monthly costs, was the social aspect.
‘‘You meet a lot of people through syndicates. We run functions for our horse syndicates and often through the friendships formed there the syndicates buy into more horses,’’ she said. The stable had a very popular battle of the sexes in 2014, where 100 men and 100 women joined syndicates around a horse. ‘‘That took off on social media. Husbands and wives were on opposite teams so it was quite fun.’’
The big risk was getting involved with a non-registered syndicator. She advised anyone looking at getting involved in a syndicate to approach a registered syndicator or trainer first. Through those people the partowners will be kept updated on the horse. Anyone interested can contact Graham Richardson on 021 2899333 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
