Jacob’s mad on muay thai

Matamata Chronicle - - Matamata Breeders’ Stakes - ABBY BROWN

A local 13-year-old muay thai fighter is set on winning a gold medal in Thailand.

First, though, Jacob Clarke has to win his category at the New Zealand muay thai nationals in Hamilton on March 12. If he achieves this he has an opportunity to represent New Zealand in Thailand for the World Junior Muay Thai champs. Preparing for the world champs ‘‘will include very hard training sessions as well as weekend camps in Auckland with other kids fighting for the New Zealand Black Gloves,’’ he said.

They will all have the same goals so first he needs to focus and win the nationals, Clarke said.

The rugby player, who started training at Grizzly Thai Boxing Gym in Pukekohe with Mike Gault to keep himself fit over the summer season, has won six of the 12 fights he has had. In the two years he has been involved in the sport he has had three losses and three draws. He trains at Fitzone Gym, which has sponsored him, four to five times a week, including box fit, cross fit and cardio work outs. He then polishes up his muay thai skills at home with his dad.

If anyone can help Jacob please contact Darryl Clarke on 027 2974717.
