Matamata Chronicle - - Conversations - ABBY BROWN

There were several local winners at the Matamata Festival of Music but the newest prize went out of the area.

The winners of the newly gifted trophy were Michelangelo Bisquera and Leah Munroe, who were joint musical directors of North Shore Youth Symphonic Wind Band.

They won the Brian and Sandra Hunter Award for Musical Excellence.

Sandra had been presenter at the event for three years and Bryan had assisted with the festival through the Matamata Rotary Club.

The annual festival, which happened on May 22 at Matamata College, had 12 brass and concert bands perform.

The adjudicator of the festival, John McGough, gave the new trophy to the most technical player. The other winners were locals Andrew Schweizer who won the Selwyn Chambers Memorial Cup for best junior soloist, while the musical director of the Matamata brass band, Memorie Brooky, helped her band win the David and Ruth Cochrane Cup for Adjudicator’s Choice.
