Matamata students gets sponsors for Agrikids

Matamata Chronicle - - Out And About - ABBY BROWN

A townie, a boy who has just moved onto a farm, and a self- described farmer are grateful to their community’s help, especially DeLaval’s, in funding their trip to the grand final of the Agrikids competition.

The milking equipment supplier was one of Matamata Intermediate students’ biggest sponsors.

They gave Conrad Wilson, Max Hunwick, and Stephen Turner $2000 that they will use for flights and accommodation for the final which is in Timaru from July 7 to 9.

Former Matamata intermediate student, and DeLaval’s marketing director, Kim Sowry said the company tried to support the dairy industry, especially those up and coming people.

Other sponsors, including Kiwanis, one anonymous person, the Matamata Farmers’ Trust and Piarere Young Farmers, gave them another $1000 all up.

The students originally placed fourth at the Waikato/ Bay of Plenty regional final but have been invited as the third place getters were unable to attend.

Testing modules could include things like caring for animals, identifying farm equipment or weather forecasting.
