Matamata Chronicle - - What’s On -

COMAG Matamata College 1st XV made it two wins from three games in the Waikato-Counties Premier Competition with a 30 points to 10 win over Te Awamutu 1st XV at the weekend.

Matamata started strongly and were able to build phases with the forwards setting a good platform for the back who were able to stretch Te Awamutu’s defence.

First half tries were scored by Rhys Dickinson and Graeson Tanirau.

Kieran Holdsworth converted both of these and kicked a penalty.

Matamata were hot on attack just before half time when Te Awamutu intercepted a pass and went the length of the field to score.

They had also kicked a penalty earlier, meaning Matamata’s half time lead was 17 points to 10.

Te Awamutu attacked well in the second half, but they were not able to add to their points tally as Matamata’s defence was good.

Dylan Deed scored an excellent individual try after he made a break from 40 meters out.

Kieran Holdsworth converted as well as kicking two other penalties to round out a very good day with his boot making the final score 30 points to 10.

Overall, it was a good performance from Matamata with Dev Jackson, Jared Tuhakaraina and Tom Conner leading the way in the forwards.

Yuki Yamazaki, Henry Pou, Rhys Dickinson and Jake Roa all had strong games in the back line.
