Matamata Chronicle - - Your Paper, Your Place -

The redevelopment of the Matamata civic centre continues to generate debate. There are those who believe the current civic buildings could well work for the community, if only money was spent on redeveloping them to meet building standards. There are others who believe the new civic centre plans don’t offer the community options for big-budget productions. And some community groups have suggested their events are in jeopardy because the new civic centre does not have the capacity to accommodate their needs. This week yet another angle on this story. Matamata Futures is pressing ahead with its plans to develop a sports centre in town. An independent report has been completed and shows public support for the idea. Next step is securing funding and partnerships to make it become reality. The key here will be to make sure there are no doubleups, in terms of developing a new civic centre, and a new sports centre, at the same time.
