Matamata Veterinary Services vet nurse Christina Janse van Rensburg and retail personnel Teresa Hayden are encouraging people to support them by buying or contributing cupcakes to sell for the August 15 SPCA Cupcake Day fundraiser.

If you have a sweet tooth and a heart for animals, then make sure you visit Matamata Veterinary Services on August 15.

The Team from Matamata Veterinary Services is participating in the SPCA Cupcake Day fundraiser.

The fundraiser is in its 8th year. Last year 1650 people, 60 companies and 298 schools participated and raised over $390,000 to help fight animal cruelty.

The SPCA receives no government funding and relies on the community and corporate supporters to fund all their services. All the proceeds from Cupcake Day go directly towards helping abandoned, abused and neglected animals.

Matamata Veterinary Services vet nurse Christina Janse van Rensburg says the service decided to be a part of Cupcake Day because as a vet practise it deals with many animals in need of help.

‘‘We see so many stray, abandoned and neglected animals come in, we thought it would be great to be a part of Cupcake Day, support the SPCA and make lots of money for them so they can provide animals with shelter and food.’’

With a team of five cupcake bakers from within the Matamata Veterinary Services team, Christina says people can be assured of a wide range of delicious, funky looking cupcakes to choose from, each one for a gold coin donation. One hundred per cent of the funds going to the SPCA.

Matamata Veterinary Services also participated last year and donated just over $210.

Members of the team took the cupcakes from business to business, which Christina says they will probably do again this year.

They are encouraging people to contribute cupcakes to sell, or people can place orders, requesting a certain quantity.

Orders will need to be placed by no later Friday, August 12 and can be collected from Matamata Veterinary Services on Tainui Street next Monday from 8am.

Anyone with orders or questions can contact Stephanie Pickett at Matamata Veterinary Services on 888 8197.
