Matamata Chronicle - - Your Paper, Your Place - REXINE HAWES

Taking a bite from a big juicy apple could change the life of men and women affected by breast cancer.

New World Supermarket is selling bags of Pink Lady apples, from which 50 cents will be donated to the Breast Cancer Foundation of New Zealand from every bag sold until the end of August.

Matamata New World produce manager Elaine Vickers is passionate about the work of the foundation.

She hopes the campaign not only helps raise money for the foundation but raises awareness about breast cancer.

‘‘Cancer affects most of us, either ourselves personally or someone we know, and it’s not just women who are involved, but men too.

‘‘It’s a subject close to my own heart.’’

She says she is thrilled the whole produce team is getting behind the fundraiser and campaign by wearing bright pink shirts ‘‘even the guys’’ are taking part.
