A new collection of art from an artist new to Matamata, is on display at the Westpac Bank.

Joanna Grant, an acrylic and mixed media artist has several of her favourite pieces on display, as well as available for purchase.

The display is part of the Matamata Society of Arts Inc, with 20 per cent of the proceeds from any pieces sold, going towards the building of the new wing at Pohlen Hospital.

New to the Matamata Community, Grant and her husband moved here from Auckland 14 months ago, and have made themselves at home, getting involved in many groups and making great like minded friends.

Grant is enjoying the Matamata art scene, and is a member of the Matamata Society of Arts Inc.

‘‘Matamata’s art scene is quite good, there’s lots of talent here.’’

She has joined the Matamata Quilt and Craft group, which she is enjoying, and is also helping with the organisation of the Firth Tower book drive.

It was while in Auckland 12 years ago that she discovered her passion for art and quilting, and met her inspiration in a teacher at community education.

‘‘She was fantastic, she gave me ideas about what’s out there.’’
