Football 5-a-side kicks off

Matamata Chronicle - - Your Paper, Your Place - DWAYNE BARLOW

Matamata Swifts’ annual summer 5-a-side soccer tournament is set to kick off, with the club hopeful of increased involvement across all grades.

An annual fixture on the local social sports calendar, summer 5-a-side soccer is primarily aimed at the social or business house sports person, with players aged from 12 and above, as well as both sexes, encouraged to get involved.

Summer 5-a-side organiser, Dwayne Barlow, is keen to get more business teams involved this summer.

‘‘Yes, definitely. We reckon 5-a-side is the ideal social summer sport for work mates to get together outside the regular working day, have a bit of fun as a group while getting in some decent exercise,’’ says Barlow.

‘‘Teams get two games every Thursday evening, so players get a solid workout, with a nice little break in between.’’

Summer 5-a-side soccer begins on September 29. Teams can enter in the competitive A grade or the social business house grade. The club has a registration evening at the Matamata Domain clubrooms September 15, starting at 7pm. Visit: www.mata 5-a-side
