Triathlon rep offers clinic in Matamata

Matamata Chronicle - - Out & About - REXINE HAWES

A passionate and experienced triathlon coach is coming to Matamata to host a one day triathlon clinic.

Triathlon and sport endurance coach Benjamin Eitelberg is holding a Triathlon Clinic at Swim Zone on October 8, catering for people of all fitness levels.

Benjamin is a 20 year veteran of the sport and represents New Zealand at an age group level.

He coaches beginners and serious athletes of all ages from through his coaching business Fitness Locker.

‘‘Competing is a serious hobby for me,’’ he says.

He has a passion for triathlon and health and loves offering others the chance to learn and enjoy the sport and get healthy through exercise and nutrition.

‘‘My ethos is reaching out to as many people as possible and impart the opportunity to be active and live a healthy lifestyle.’’

This is the fourth clinic he has conducted in Matamata, each one at Swim Zone.

The first two were in 2014 and another one was held earlier this year.

Benjamin uses the clinics to coach and teach different aspects of the sport.

Some clinics he has run in other parts of the country are two to three days, but this is one day only. He says it is jam packed, but does have a relaxed flow.

The day will start at 8am, and each segment runs for 90 mins till 4pm.

The whole clinic utilises the gym, pool and Matamata Domain field and covers swimming, strength mobility, running, cycling, theory and nutrition.

He enjoys using Matamata as a clinic base because its so central to many of the main centres.

People from Auckland, Otorohanga, Te Awamutu, Rotorua and Cambridge attend the clinics, as well as a few locals.

Benjamin says he would like to have more attendees from the Matamata-Piako.

He says the clinics are suitable for people of any fitness level, including people training for their first triathlon, or others already seriously competing.

‘‘No one gets dropped, you can be the slowest swimmer or runner. You learn off each other cause you are in same environment.’’
