‘Gusty’ move to stand for ward election

New faces and fresh ideas are just some of the qualities the candidates for the coming local government elections will offer Matamata.

Voting papers for the elections have started appearing in letter boxes outlining the five candidates contesting the four seats available on the Matamata Ward for the Matamata-Piako District Council.

Mayor Jan Barnes will be spending the coming weeks encouraging people to vote ahead of polling day on October 8.

She commended Kevin Tappin, Joanne Aoake, James Sainsbury and Adrienne Wilcock for putting themselves forward as candidates.

‘‘These five people have been prepared to be judged by the community, so they can serve the community.

‘‘That’s a gutsy thing to do. All of the five candidates would make great councillors, it’s a pity one has to miss out.’’

Barnes said it was important for people to vote, if they wanted a say in how the ward, and district, was run.
