Loyal customers key to Tony’s success
‘‘He couldn't have won this award without his fantastic group of loyal customers, many from the Matamata area.’’
Former Matamata Travel Agent, Tony Jackson, now at House of Travel Newmarket has been named Best Retail Travel Consultant at this year’s prestigious National Travel Industry Awards.
Jackson, who was a travel agent with Jo Anne Prevett Travel from 2003 to 2008, called the win the ‘‘highlight of his career’’.
He said he couldn’t have won this award without his fantastic group of loyal customers, many from the Matamata area.
‘‘It is an amazing feeling to receive the highest accolade I could achieve.
‘‘I’m so proud to be recognised by my peers and the travel industry as a whole,’’ he says.
Jackson’s win follows a number of accolades at House of Travel’s Annual awards ceremonies, where over 400 travel agents gather to celebrate the agency’s top performers.
Jackson has consistently taken out the award for Consultant of the Year, in 2015, 2013, 2011 and 2010, and was in the Top 12 in 2012 and 2014.
Jackson believes the key to being a successful travel agent is staying up to speed with a dynamic industry and getting to know your customers.
‘‘I’m passionate about travel, I love helping clients piece together an itinerary that is perfect for what they need,’’ he says.
‘‘It’s so important to get to know your customers and their interests, as well as what they value in a holiday.
‘‘If you can do that as well as keeping up to date with travel trends, hot destinations and providing a full service to your clients you’ll be able to help them create something really special,’’ Jackson said.
Run by the Travel Agents’ Association of New Zealand (TAANZ), the National Travel Industry Awards recognise excellence in travel industry.
The winners were announced at a gala dinner at Sky City in Auckland on Saturday, September 10.
