Out, make stand against vi­o­lence

From 10am to noon, there will be en­ter­tain­ment, food stalls, in­for­ma­tion/re­source stands.

Be­gin­ning at 10.45am, there will be a three-kilo­me­tre walk (on a closed road) aimed at show­ing par­tic­i­pants’ united stand against fam­ily vi­o­lence.

In­di­vid­u­als, fam­i­lies, sports/ in­ter­est/com­mu­nity/ser­vice groups and busi­nesses are urged to turn out and walk shoul­der to shoul­der against fam­ily vi­o­lence.

Novem­ber is also White Rib­bon Month – the White Rib­bon Ap­peal is recog­nised in­ter­na­tion­ally on Novem­ber 25.

Walk­ers, stroller/pram push­ers and scooter rid­ers are en­cour­aged to wear white.

There will be prizes for best­dressed, as well as spot prizes.

BUSC is a group of vol­un­teers, pas­sion­ate about re­duc­ing fam­ily vi­o­lence and cre­at­ing a safe com­mu­nity right here in Mata­mata, Wa­haroa and sur­round­ing district.

They are sup­ported by the New Zealand Po­lice, Mata­mata-Pi­ako District Coun­cil, Starfish, Te Hauora o Ngati Haua, Min­istry of So­cial De­vel­op­ment as well as the Fam­ily Vi­o­lence It’s Not OK project.
