Short ‘n’ sweet returns

Matamata Chronicle - - Your Paper, Your Place -

Ever considered yourself a playwright in the making?

If so, why not put your play writing capabilities to the test?

The Matamata Dramatic Society is calling all playwrights to enter the Short and Sweet play competition.

The competition is part of a festival to be held June/July 2017. Each play must be around 10 minutes long and have three-tofour characters.

From the entries, six plays will be selected to be performed, with auditions to be held next year.

This is the fourth time the competition has been held, with Dr Greg Dunn winning the competition in 2014 with his play Free Parking.

Festival co-ordinator Colin Kemplen says the festival is a great opportunity for anyone who has ever wanted to experience the world of theatre.

‘‘This will be a wonderful introduction into the theatre and an opportunity for new actors to get alongside ‘old stagers’.’’

Entries, including the writers pseudonym, must be in by January 31. Contact Kemplen on 888 4172 or 0274 478 347 or by emailing matamatadra for entry details.

Reporter Rexine Hawes, who has never performed on stage, will use Short and Sweet as a reporter challenge - if her audition is successful.
