FROM THE NEWS DESK
The dust is settling on this year’s local government election and the four candidates to represent Matamata have been elected. First-time councillors James Sainsbury, Kevin Tappin, Adrienne Wilcock and incumbent Brian Hunter are about to begin a new three-year term on the Matamata-Piako District Council. Over the coming months we’ll be quizzing the new councillors to hear about what their goals and ambitions are. We’ll be keen to hear how they intend to work with councillors from the Morrinsville and Te Aroha wards and with other public representatives around the Waikato. Formalities will follow shortly to officially notify their status as councillors for the ward. Some of the challenges that lay ahead for the new councillors include the proposal to build a new indoor sport complex for Matamata and the development of the new civic centre to name a few. We look forward to marking their progress.
