The oranges, supplied by Gisbourne Citrus Growers, arrived in boxes of 100, which have been pre-sold by the box for $25 each.

Howard says it was such a neat surprise and they are thrilled that such a small school was selected from so many entries.

Wairere was nominated by a grandmother of a former student and the school has gifted her with a box or oranges.

The school will make $1000 from the fundraiser, which Howard says will be very welcome.

‘‘We have plenty of projects coming up that the money will go towards.’’

The school holds fundraisers throughout the year to help with the general upkeep of the school and fund special projects.

This Friday, from 6.30pm the school is holding a quiz night at Wardville Hall.

There will be spot prizes throughout the evening, which have kindly been donated by various businesses.

‘‘The town has really got behind us, so we definitely are lucky,’’ says Howard.
