Matamata Club opens for summer
Our first Summer Open Three Bowls Triples Tournament last Thursday, November 3, was a successful day.
We had a full green with 16 teams, thanks to our tournament secretary Rita.
Joining the six Matamata club teams, were four teams from Rewa, two from Tokoroa, and one each from Morrinsville, Cambridge Central, Arapuni and Tauranga South.
After four rounds, the winners were the Tauranga South team of M.Reed, with D.Dean and J.Welch with four wins, 23 ends and 62 points. In second place was the Rewa team of W.Hill with J.Hart and I Shearman also with four wins, 19 ends and 41 points. In third place was the Tokoroa team of H.Frost with B.Hewson and M.Dobbyn with three wins, 24 ends and 48 points.
Best Matamata team with two wins, 17 ends and 30 points was Ada Steverson with Pat le Prou and Bruce Stewart. Each received a prize kindly donated by New World Matamata. There were two raffles, won by visiting teams.
Club Championships are in progress, and Fours have been completed. Champions for the 2016/17 season are ladies Ada Steverson with Zelda Clements, Pat le Prou and Coral Daisley, with runners up Rita Donderwinkel with Elaine James, Frances Canty and Jan Wills.
Men’s champions for the 2016/17 season are Tony Donderwinkel with Doug Caird, Mark Patterson and Bruce Stew- art. Runnersup were George Theobald with Ken Cowley, Bob Squibbs and Norman Barron.
