Mata­mata Club opens for sum­mer

Our first Sum­mer Open Three Bowls Triples Tour­na­ment last Thurs­day, Novem­ber 3, was a suc­cess­ful day.

We had a full green with 16 teams, thanks to our tour­na­ment sec­re­tary Rita.

Join­ing the six Mata­mata club teams, were four teams from Rewa, two from Toko­roa, and one each from Mor­rinsville, Cam­bridge Cen­tral, Ara­puni and Tau­ranga South.

Af­ter four rounds, the win­ners were the Tau­ranga South team of M.Reed, with D.Dean and J.Welch with four wins, 23 ends and 62 points. In sec­ond place was the Rewa team of W.Hill with J.Hart and I Shear­man also with four wins, 19 ends and 41 points. In third place was the Toko­roa team of H.Frost with B.Hew­son and M.Dob­byn with three wins, 24 ends and 48 points.

Best Mata­mata team with two wins, 17 ends and 30 points was Ada Stev­er­son with Pat le Prou and Bruce Ste­wart. Each re­ceived a prize kindly do­nated by New World Mata­mata. There were two raf­fles, won by vis­it­ing teams.

Club Cham­pi­onships are in progress, and Fours have been com­pleted. Cham­pi­ons for the 2016/17 sea­son are ladies Ada Stev­er­son with Zelda Cle­ments, Pat le Prou and Co­ral Dais­ley, with run­ners up Rita Don­der­winkel with Elaine James, Frances Canty and Jan Wills.

Men’s cham­pi­ons for the 2016/17 sea­son are Tony Don­der­winkel with Doug Caird, Mark Pat­ter­son and Bruce Stew- art. Run­ner­sup were Ge­orge Theobald with Ken Cow­ley, Bob Squibbs and Nor­man Bar­ron.
