Celebrating 100 years of Cubs
A Matamata time capsule will remind generations to come of a well-known organisation which this year celebrates its 100th birthday, worldwide.
It’s an initiative by The Matamata Cubs, which moved into party mode recently, celebrating the clubs centenary.
Matamata Cubs leader Maureen Bobbet said the group marked the occasion with a birthday party, complete with cake and old-time games they played in the last century.
A time capsule will be sealed and re-opened by cub members 100 years from now, in 2116.
It will include a photo, their date of birth and school name, plus a private memento from their favourite cub activity.
Kea, Cub and Scout leaders and parent help are needed. Matamata Scouts have joined with Putaruru due to a shortage in leaders.
The cubs are holding a fundraising garage sale on Saturday, November 19, from 9am3pm at the Scout hall.
