Cel­e­brat­ing 100 years of Cubs

A Mata­mata time cap­sule will re­mind gen­er­a­tions to come of a well-known or­gan­i­sa­tion which this year cel­e­brates its 100th birth­day, world­wide.

It’s an ini­tia­tive by The Mata­mata Cubs, which moved into party mode re­cently, cel­e­brat­ing the clubs cen­te­nary.

Mata­mata Cubs leader Mau­reen Bob­bet said the group marked the oc­ca­sion with a birth­day party, com­plete with cake and old-time games they played in the last cen­tury.

A time cap­sule will be sealed and re-opened by cub members 100 years from now, in 2116.

It will in­clude a photo, their date of birth and school name, plus a pri­vate me­mento from their favourite cub ac­tiv­ity.

Kea, Cub and Scout lead­ers and par­ent help are needed. Mata­mata Scouts have joined with Pu­taruru due to a short­age in lead­ers.

The cubs are hold­ing a fundrais­ing garage sale on Satur­day, November 19, from 9am3pm at the Scout hall.
