It’s busy festive season for Hinuera club
It has been a busy fortnight for the Hinuera Bowling Club.
The Junior Singles Championships were played over the weekend.
The men’s competition had five entries and it was a long day on the green with five rounds being completed.
In the end Warren Feek beat Chen Naude in the final.
The women’s event had two entries, Jocelyn Holten and Eddie Hodgkinson, and it was Jocelyn who came out on top beating Eddie twice.
The Waikato Open Singles for the men and women were played last weekend.
The Hinuera Club provided 10 entries and after qualifying, six were to progress through to post section.
In the Men’s Singles were Gerard Slattery, Kevin Smith, Bevan Shelley and Brendon Brill.
The Women’s Singles qualifiers were Debbie White and Linda Jeffries.
The first round of post section play for the men saw Gerard Slattery defeated.
The last 16 action saw Kevin Smith playing Bevan Shelley and Brendon Brill playing a Hillcrest opponent. Bevan beat Kevin and unfortunately Brendon was beaten.
Bevan then went on to defeat a

Frankton Railway player to eventually make it through to the semi final, which is to be played at a later date.
For the women, Linda Jeffries was beaten in the semi final by NZ Squad Member Ashleigh Jeffcoat, and Debbie White went down by the narrowest of margins 20-21 to Frankton Junction also in the semi final.
Liam Shelley and Tamati Sidney made the playoffs for 3rd and 4th in the Waikato Secondary Pairs.
They went through section play unbeaten and it was only on count back that they missed out on the playoff for 1st and 2nd.
They won their playoff game and ended up third.
Hinuera were well represented in the Waikato Squads that played matches against Bay of Plenty, Thames Valley and CountiesManukau on the weekend.
Jocelyn Holten was in the Waikato Under 8s that won the Geddes Trophy.
Bev Corbett, Debbie White, Linda Jeffries (in the senior women’s) and Dwayne Cameron, Gerard Slattery and Paul Casey Jnr (in the senior Men’s) went on to win the quadrangular competitions.
