It’s busy fes­tive sea­son for Hin­uera club

It has been a busy fort­night for the Hin­uera Bowl­ing Club.

The Ju­nior Sin­gles Cham­pi­onships were played over the week­end.

The men’s com­pe­ti­tion had five en­tries and it was a long day on the green with five rounds be­ing com­pleted.

In the end War­ren Feek beat Chen Naude in the fi­nal.

The women’s event had two en­tries, Jo­ce­lyn Holten and Ed­die Hodgkin­son, and it was Jo­ce­lyn who came out on top beat­ing Ed­die twice.

The Waikato Open Sin­gles for the men and women were played last week­end.

The Hin­uera Club pro­vided 10 en­tries and af­ter qual­i­fy­ing, six were to progress through to post sec­tion.

In the Men’s Sin­gles were Ger­ard Slat­tery, Kevin Smith, Be­van Shel­ley and Bren­don Brill.

The Women’s Sin­gles qual­i­fiers were Deb­bie White and Linda Jef­fries.

The first round of post sec­tion play for the men saw Ger­ard Slat­tery de­feated.

The last 16 ac­tion saw Kevin Smith play­ing Be­van Shel­ley and Bren­don Brill play­ing a Hill­crest op­po­nent. Be­van beat Kevin and un­for­tu­nately Bren­don was beaten.

Be­van then went on to de­feat a

Frank­ton Rail­way player to even­tu­ally make it through to the semi fi­nal, which is to be played at a later date.

For the women, Linda Jef­fries was beaten in the semi fi­nal by NZ Squad Mem­ber Ash­leigh Jef­f­coat, and Deb­bie White went down by the nar­row­est of mar­gins 20-21 to Frank­ton Junc­tion also in the semi fi­nal.

Liam Shel­ley and Ta­mati Sid­ney made the play­offs for 3rd and 4th in the Waikato Sec­ondary Pairs.

They went through sec­tion play un­beaten and it was only on count back that they missed out on the play­off for 1st and 2nd.

They won their play­off game and ended up third.

Hin­uera were well rep­re­sented in the Waikato Squads that played matches against Bay of Plenty, Thames Val­ley and Coun­tiesManukau on the week­end.

Jo­ce­lyn Holten was in the Waikato Un­der 8s that won the Ged­des Tro­phy.

Bev Cor­bett, Deb­bie White, Linda Jef­fries (in the se­nior women’s) and Dwayne Cameron, Ger­ard Slat­tery and Paul Casey Jnr (in the se­nior Men’s) went on to win the quad­ran­gu­lar com­pe­ti­tions.
