Fond farewell for year 8s

Matamata Chronicle - - Out & About - SCHOOL REPORT

It is going to be really sad, as the year draws to an end, to say goodbye to the year eights from Matamata Intermediate but what a month to leave them with.

We have enjoyed talent quests, graduation dance, prize givings and picnic day just to name a few of the events over the last few weeks.

The graduation dance, you may be wondering, is a celebration for all of the year 8s who have been showing the 3Cs (courtesy, common sense and consideration) during their two years at Matamata Intermediate. It is a really cool night where we all get to formally dance and celebrate the fact we added value to our shirt.

During our two years, Mr Gibbs, the principal, has often reminded us of the importance of adding value to our school and community.

As well as celebrating the end of the year 8s’ time at Matamata Intermediate, we have welcomed the new students to our school, for 2017. Earlier in the month, we hosted an orientation day where the current students performed a show for all the local primary school year 6 students. This showed them all the extra curricular activities they could take part in, ranging from musical instruments to public speaking. Hopefully, each student left excited and looking forward to starting at Intermediate, next year.

Another show was an incredibly entertaining night called the Talent Quest. The performances included sing- ing, skits, musical instruments, cultural presentations and much much more. Congratulations to all performers.

As a year 8, I would like to leave a message for my fellow students. It will be really sad to say goodbye to intermediate, but boy, we can be excited for next year and the adventure it will bring. Good luck to those coming to intermediate, in 2017, I hope you enjoy it as much as I have. Thank you to all the teachers who have guided me on my path to becoming a ‘tall poppy’ and being the best I can be.

As a school, we would like to thank the Matamata community for their support and we wish you a happy and safe Christmas and New Years.
