Matamata Chronicle - - Your Paper, Your Place -

Businesses and tourism outlets report large numbers of international visitors coming into Matamata over the coming months as holidaymakers come to see what this Waikato town has to offer. Top of the list is still the Hobbiton movie set with management there suggesting visitor numbers will eclipse last year’s figures. Accommodation outlets and eateries are working hard to keep up with demand and Mike Bain has the story on page 3 in this week’s issue. Reporter Rexine Hawes also has the Year In Review on pages 4 and 5, looking back on the big events which shaped 2016. We also look at some of our sports photos we snapped from the year gone by, on pages 18 and 24. Rexine also has the results of your picks for the best chip shop in town, which, along with other similar eateries, are likely to be enjoying the summer business trade. There’s also the latest in our Back In The Day series, which features a story from 1981 on a prominent retiring businessman.
