Matamata Chronicle - - Your Paper, Your Place -

The failure to find the extra finance to include a stage and wings for the proposed Matamata Civic Centre certainly struck a chord with readers in recent weeks. As did our story on the parking woes of businesses operating on Broadway. Firstterm councillor Kevin Tappin focusses much of his election campaign on finding the money to add a stage and wings to the plans of the new centre. The funding applications he made were unsuccessful but he continues to look for other avenues to raise the money needed. Some readers have called out the council to fund the additions but that cost could be passed on to ratepayers. When it comes to parking, people have told us it’s the heavy vehicles coming into town causing the problems, clogging the main street making it difficult for traffic to flow. Perhaps this will put the subject of a heavy-vehicle bypass back on the council’s agenda this year.
