Bridge closure on SH24
People travelling to and from Matamata on SH24 will be detoured while month-long bridge works are done on the Waiomou Stream bridge.
The bridge is on SH24 on the Matamata side of the intersection with Old Te Aroha Road.
A full road closure is needed while the bridge is strengthened to High Productivity Motor Vehicles standard, and deck repairs.
Work will start on Monday, February 13, with the detour needed for three-to-four weeks.
The detours include, southbound traffic from Matamata touse SH24 then Te Poi Road to SH29 (allow an extra two minutes of travel time).
Also, north-bound traffic heading to Matamata should use SH27 (allow an extra seven minutes of travel time).
The detour will be well signposted.
Local residents and traffic needing to access properties off SH24 will have access maintained for the north and south to the bridge.
A temporary speed limit for 50km/h will be in place at the SH27/29 intersection.
