Bridge clo­sure on SH24

Peo­ple trav­el­ling to and from Mata­mata on SH24 will be de­toured while month-long bridge works are done on the Waiomou Stream bridge.

The bridge is on SH24 on the Mata­mata side of the in­ter­sec­tion with Old Te Aroha Road.

A full road clo­sure is needed while the bridge is strength­ened to High Pro­duc­tiv­ity Mo­tor Ve­hi­cles stan­dard, and deck repairs.

Work will start on Mon­day, Fe­bru­ary 13, with the de­tour needed for three-to-four weeks.

The de­tours in­clude, south­bound traf­fic from Mata­mata touse SH24 then Te Poi Road to SH29 (al­low an ex­tra two min­utes of travel time).

Also, north-bound traf­fic head­ing to Mata­mata should use SH27 (al­low an ex­tra seven min­utes of travel time).

The de­tour will be well sign­posted.

Lo­cal res­i­dents and traf­fic need­ing to ac­cess prop­er­ties off SH24 will have ac­cess main­tained for the north and south to the bridge.

A tem­po­rary speed limit for 50km/h will be in place at the SH27/29 in­ter­sec­tion.
