Are you up for the challenge Matamata?

Matamata Chronicle - - Motoring - SPORT

Have Matamata residents got what it takes to be the fittest people of the three MatamataPiako towns?

The Active and Well team, as part of Sport Waikato, is inviting people and businesses in the Matamata-Piako to become involved in a 12-week challenge.

The challenge is part of the Green Prescription service, a Ministry Of Health initiative offering healthy lifestyle support and advice. Each week participants will receive an email including links to information, tips, articles and challenges.

Matamata-Piako Sport Waikato District Co-ordinator Lou Beer says people get to pick and choose the challenges from a list.

But she said she does encourage participants to challenge themselves by doing something different each time.

‘‘This week our messages are not only about sit less, stand more but also about move more and add more steps. Try adding incidental steps all day, every day– so finding reasons to add another 20 or 30 or 50 steps during as many parts of the day as you can.’’

Beer suggested that each week try and set yourself or your team two achievable, realistic goals or challenges linked to the key messages for the week; one for healthy eating and one for physical activity and keep a record.

‘‘If you are able to print the recording sheet, use that to record your goals and tick off each day of the week that you achieve your goals. Each week we give you an example of the sort of challenges you can set yourself.’’

There is special emphasis on setting new challenges for the following week, while still maintaining the challenges from the previous one. To register, contact Lou Beer on email matapiako@sport or 07 880 9088.
