OP’s first winner realised

Last Sunday marked another chapter in the story of Ocean Park when the Cox Plate winner and New Zealand Horse of the Year sired his first winner.

At Adelaide’s Morphettville racecourse, first starter Beerzatbernz notched the notable first for the Waikato Stud-based stallion.

Appropriately the bay filly was bred by Ocean Park’s former trainer and part-owner Gary Hennessy

He then sold her to leading trainer Tony McEvoy for A$40,000 at a Melbourne yearling sale.

When Ocean Park was syndicated for stud duties at the end of his illustrious racing career, Gary and his wife Jenny invested in a number of broodmares to utilise their service rights and Beerzatbernz is one of the first crop progeny they bred.

‘‘After all that we achieved together, it’s very satisfying to now be the breeder of OP’s first winner,’’ says Gary.

‘‘She’s a lovely big scopey filly, a real Oaks type, and looking at how she won I’d say she’s got a real future.’’
