Members of the Matamata community are invited to take part in a clay modelling workshop with well-known artist Fiona Tunnicliffe.

Through the Matamata Society of Arts, Tunnicliffe is holding a workshop in her Putaruru gallery on March 25 from 9.30am to 3.30pm.

The workshop has been held annually over the past two years, with previous participants creating clay models which have been displayed at the annual Matamata Society of Arts exhibition.

Society of Arts president Margaret Dwyer says previous experience with clay is not essential, as participants will be surprised with what they can achieve under Tunnifliffe’s guidance.

‘‘Clay modellers have enjoyed this talented artist’s experience and have been encouraged and supported in a relaxed environment.

‘‘Participants have been delighted with their creations and have felt enough confidence to display them.’’

She says people do not need to be members of the Matamata Society of Arts. Anyone is welcome to go along and let their creativity flow.

‘‘Even if you’ve never handled a clump of clay, you’ll be inspired and amazed with what you can achieve.’’

The cost is $80, and a car pool will leave the Matamata Memorial Centre at 9am. Bookings are essential by contacting Margaret on 888 4955.
