FROM THE NEWS DESK
The Matamata-Piako District has featured on television recently over the future of the town’s memorial centre water fountain on Tanui St. The public is to have a bigger say in terms of a decision on whether the water fountain should be demolished as planned, to make way for the redeveloped civic centre. There seems to be support for it to stay, or, has that really been triggered by a view that people are just upset the council took a lead on the matter without wider public consultation? Can the town afford to keep the water fountain maintained? Is it worth the annual maintenance costs and fixes? These are the questions the council is hoping to have feedback on over the next couple of weeks as it moves ahead with redevelopment plans for the site. We hope you will take some time to fill out our front page coupon to have your say on the matter. It’s not an official feedback form, and not part of the council’s consultation. But it may help provoke a decision either way.
