Com­fort­able vic­tory opens Hin­uera’s 2017 sea­son

Hin­uera played in Ro­to­tuna and opened their ac­count for the new sea­son with a com­fort­able vic­tory.

It was well led by Kieren McHugh and backed by youth­ful en­thu­si­asm from Lauchie McLaren, Jason Brady, Hadleigh May, and Jar­rod McKil­lop in the for­wards

Josh Hedge per­formed very well at half back.

He ran, threw passes, kicked ju­di­cially, kicked goals and scored a try for a to­tal of 23 points.

It was he who opened the scor­ing for the Gold and Blacks with a penalty, Leuthard then scored a brace and quick it was 15-nil in as many min­utes.

Hooker Tate Payze’s ac­cu­rate throw­ing con­sis­tently found the jumpers in the li­ne­outs.

His re­place­ment Hay­den Bell also had a good day throw­ing the ball into the li­ne­out.

At half time the score was 21-12 in favour of the vis­i­tors.

The sec­ond spell be­gan in mud­dling fash­ion for both teams un­til Suburbs No 6 was sin­binned.

It proved to be the tip­ping point where Hin­uera lifted their ef­forts to a new level. Levi Henare scored be­neath the posts from a great in­pass bonus point try.

Player of the day was Ole­sen – three points, McClaren two points and Brady one point.

Next week Hin­uera is home to host vis­i­tors Taupiri.
